HOGWARTS: A History

Delve Deeper Into the Wizarding World

The OFFICIAL Collection of J. K. Rowling's First Draft Books, Complete with EXCLUSIVE Notes and Memos

BOOK 1: The Philosopher's Stone
Being Rowling’s first endeavour into the magical world of the soon to be well known ‘Harry Potter’ series, this first draft includes many of her more outlandish concepts that were later deemed unsuitable for the book, such as a singing toad that can make your head explode. Learn how Rowling’s series staples, such as Quidditch and Spell Casting, comes into being in this must read for any Potter fan.
BOOK 2: The Chamber of Secrets
After the massive success of Rowling’s first book in the series, follow her along as she now has a greater understanding of what makes up the wizarding world of Hogwarts. Includes never before seen sketches of loveable house-elf ‘Dobby’, as well as hand-sketched mappings of the original design of the Chamber of Secrets, complete with giant Basilisk. Compared to the giant snake, you’d want to get a long, hard look at this piece of writing perfection.
BOOK 3: The Prisoner of Azkaban
As the readership of the books are growing older with the series characters, Rowling decides to change the tone of this once whimsical series to that of a darker one. Follow along with her journey to gain inspiration through Rowling’s horror movie rating’s, and how it all came together to create one of the series most memorable creatures, the soul sucking Dementors. Also learn how character, Professor Trelawney, is loosely based of Rowling’s great Aunt, Trilly. I wish that I had a time turner to read this forever.
BOOK 4: The Goblet of Fire
One of the series most beloved book by fans, explore Rowling’s inspiration behind the Triwizard Tournament. Follow her journey in Bulgaria, as she takes notes on the customs and regulations of this country, wishing to apply this to her foreign wizard characters. Includes various ideas of rejected tournament tasks, for example, there’s one in which the characters travel to the underground city of the mole people. Wonder why that wasn’t included? Like a Hungarian Horntails fiery breath, this is a RED HOT read.
BOOK 5: The Order of the Phoenix
With Rowling hitting her stride with the fifth book in the series, this draft is full to the brim of ideas involving the Ministry of Magic, Dumbledore’s Army etc. With fan favourite character, Luna Lovegood, introduced, explore the many people in Rowling’s life that this character is based around. One such person would be her 15-year-old niece, Susie, described in the book as ‘quirky’. The plan behind the clash of Dumbledore and Voldemort is a must read for any fan.
BOOK 6: The Half-Blood Prince
Rowling’s phenomenally popular series is nearly coming to an end with her second last book. In this draft, we see her lay the groundworks for what is to come in the endgame. Those who have already read the previous drafts would understand that this has been planned from the very beginning. Find out which character is Rowling’s favourite. Visual drafts of the horcruxes are also included, as well as a couple of scrapped ideas. Unlike Dumbledore, Rowling’s ideas are still far from dead.
